There are three keywords for my research: performativity, affordance, and multimodality.
My primary focus is about people’s performance/self-presentation in everyday life through online visual data such as videos or short-form videos. I use a performative perspective to do video analysis and affordance analysis, to argue about the theatrical or performative relationship between people and technology. I use multimodal analysis and grounded theory.
Generally, I’m interested in anything vernacular on screen: danmu, emoji, images, video. I talk about digital literacy and media literacy.
I am always open for collaborations on communication and media, human computer interaction, and performance studies. Please contact me via yitingw at hawaii dot edu.
